Rotary Drilling Hose
Copper State Rubber Rotary Drilling Hose
A rotary drilling hose carries drilling fluid from the standpipe, mounted on the derrick structure, into the top drive or swivel, where it is pumped into the rotating drill string and downhole. Rotary drilling hose is also commonly referred to as Kelly hose. Both terms refer to the same component.
Copper State Rubber has manufactured rotary drilling hoses for more than 50 years. Standard configurations typically ship in 3 to 5 weeks. A rotary drilling hose is a mission-critical component under constant pressure and flexing during normal drilling operations. A failure here does not just interrupt the pump. It stops the well and can result in loss of drilling fluid circulation, unplanned rig downtime, equipment damage, and safety hazards to rig personnel.
Why Pressure Rating and Certification Matter
Not every rotary drilling hose is built for the same conditions. Two factors separate a reliable hose from a liability: working pressure and certification. Working pressure determines what the hose can safely handle before failure becomes a risk. Certification confirms the hose was built and tested to a recognized standard, not just a manufacturer's internal claim.
API 7K is the standard that applies specifically to rotary and vibrator drilling hose, and it is the certification operators and drilling contractors look for when qualifying a supplier. Within API 7K, hoses are further qualified to specific FSL levels, each requiring the assembly to meet defined performance and safety testing thresholds beyond the base standard.
Certified for 7,500 PSI Service
Copper State Rubber's Rotary Drilling Hose is API 7K licensed (Certificate No. 7K-0014) and qualified to FSL1 and FSL2. It is rated up to 7,500 PSI working pressure and tested to 11,250 PSI, built for mud, mud booster/jumper, decoking, and motion compensator service.
Manufactured in the USA
Copper State Rubber manufactures its Rotary Drilling Hose at its facility in Avondale, Arizona. Manufacturing domestically means CSR controls every stage of production and can move a custom order faster than a supplier sourcing from overseas. For an operator facing downtime, that difference in lead time can matter more than price.
